I imagine everyone reading this blog will have heard something about today’s topic as its very well known. However, for anyone unfamiliar with artificial intelligence I will educate you. AI is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems. These processes include learning (the acquisition of information and rules for using the information), reasoning (using rules to reach approximate or definite conclusions) and self-correction. Machine learning is everywhere, it’s most primitive forms are apps like Netflix which recommend movies and TV shows based on your previously watched. Its most advanced uses extend to quantum computing which is a whole other blog in itself so I wont go into detail. Experts believe the possibilities for artificial intelligence is so vast that some are worried about the future believing that this tech may become so intelligent that it could potentially undergo recursive self-improvement, triggering an intelligence explosion leaving human intellect far behind. Whether this is true or not its quite unsettling.
People are questioning what will prevent machines turning evil and having goals, including myself. I mean, a missile has a goal? The only difference is its not super intelligent and we control it. But what if some of these theories about AI becoming so intelligent it develops its own agenda
AI Myths
There are plenty of myths surrounding AI. Some of the more entertaining and slightly skeptical ideas stretch to super intelligent technology taking over the world by 2100. This stems from the fact that Humans are more intelligent than tigers so we keep some captive. Whats to say that super intelligent robots wont do the same to us humans?
A considerably less exciting myth is that we will have super Intelligent AI systems within the next century. However scientist can simply not agree on a timeline, it may be decades or even centuries before we witness the phenomenal power of these machines.
Although the chances are we wont get to witness the evolution of super intelligent machines taking over the world in our lifetime. Well, I hope not. Anyway guys thanks again for reading, until next time.
